This is the glossary for students in the Graphic Design faculty; in where presenting 25 topics about the Environmental Graphic Design, with subtopics like museography, merchandising and environmental publicity.

Acrylic/ Acrílico: English: Acrylic is a kind of plastic, fabric, fiber, or paint that's made from acrylic acid. Spanish: El acrílico es un tipo de plástico, tela, fibra o pintura que está hecho de ácido acrílico.; Example: ACRYLIC has been employed as the casing to allow visual insight into the turbine's operation.
Advertising Campaign/ Campaña Ambiental: English: An advertising campaign is a series of advertisement messages that share a single idea and theme which make up an integrated marketing communication (IMC). Spanish: Una campaña publicitaria es una serie de mensajes publicitarios que comparten una sola idea y tema que conforman una comunicación de marketing integrada (IMC).; Example: The launch was accompanied by a high-profile ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN.
Archigraph/ Arquigrafía: English: Is the part of visual communication that is based on concepts and graphic elements of a brand (logo, color palettes, design) brought to architecture. Spanish: Es la parte de la comunicación visual que se basa en conceptos y elementos gráficos de una marca (logo, paletas de colores, diseño) llevados a la Arquitectura.; Example: Is it possible from ARCHIGRAPHY to establish an emotional connection between the brand and the consumer through space to create a positive shopping experience?
Backlite/ Retroiluminado: English: It is a translucent canvas that filters the light on a sign. Spanish: Es una lona traslúcida que filtra la luz en un letrero.; Example: ArkiMuebles uses BACKLIGHT material for its sign since they have a normal day.
Billboard Advertising/ Espectaculares Publicitarios: English: It is a mass-market medium that is used to broadcast messages for branding and support campaigns. Spanish: Es un medio de mercado masivo que se utiliza para difundir mensajes para campañas de marca y apoyo.; Example: The global BILLBOARD outdoor ADVERTISING market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 7.56% during the period 2014-2019.
Brand/ Marca: English: Is an intangible business or marketing concept that helps people identify a company, a product, or an individual. Spanish: Una marca es un concepto comercial o de marketing intangible que ayuda a las personas a identificar una empresa, un producto o un individuo.; Example: Win2 does not clearly emphasize that idea of sustainability which is crucial for a BRAND new technology to succeed in the commercialization process.
Brief: English: Essentially, a graphic design brief is a document that captures the vision for a creative project and outlines the client's expectations for the end result. Spanish: Esencialmente, un resumen de diseño gráfico es un documento que captura la visión de un proyecto creativo y describe las expectativas del cliente para el resultado final.; Example: This can provide a project manager with a BRIEF snapshot of how long the project should take and what resources are required at any given moment in time.
Buyer/ Comprador o cliente: English: One who buys goods or services. It means someone who buys something but the "buyer" is more common and it does not usually work in stores. Spanish: Aquel que compra bienes o servicios. Significa alguien que compra algo pero el término "buyer" es más común y no suele aplicarse en tiendas.; Example: Consider that 70% of BUYERS make their decision only once they are in-store or online.
Concept/ Concepto: English: It's a general idea about a thing or group of things, derived from specific instances or occurrences. Spanish: Es una idea general sobre una cosa o un grupo de cosas, derivada de instancias o sucesos específicos.; Example: It is sometimes easier to illustrate an abstract CONCEPT by analogy with something concrete.
Corporate Identity/ Identidad Corporativa: English: Is how your business presents itself to the outside world. Although internal culture and values are integral to shaping company identity, definition applies to a company’s visual assets and brand design. Spanish: Es la forma en que un negocio se presenta al mundo exterior. Aunque la cultura y los valores internos son fundamentales para dar forma a la identidad de la empresa; la definición se aplica a los activos visuales y al diseño de marca de la empresa.; Example: This brand evolution has been matched with a continually shifting CORPORATE visual IDENTITY – most notably with its 2014 rebrand.
Dangler/ Colgador: English: Decorative and signage element located at the edge of the shelves or shelves. Spanish: Elemento decorativo y de señalización ubicado al borde de los entrepaños o estanterías.; Example: Adhesive PP PVC POP Display Promotional Advertising Wobblers DANGLER.
Display/ Exhibidor: English: To arrange something or a collection of things so that it can be seen by the public. Spanish: Es un objeto o escaparate en donde se coloca el producto para que pueda ser visto por el público.; Example: New books are DISPLAYED in a prominent position on tables at the front of the shop.
Ergonomics/ Ergonomía: English: Is a science whose main purpose is to design workspaces and tools that help people do their jobs and use their tools and other products comfortably and safely. Spanish: Es una ciencia cuyo objetivo principal es diseñar espacios de trabajo y herramientas que ayuden a las personas a realizar su trabajo y utilizar sus herramientas y otros productos de forma cómoda y segura.; Example: Through Brazilian publication revision on the relations amongst ERGONOMICS and Design, we observed the tendency towards an approach focusing on product design.
Evacuation Route/ Ruta de Evacuación: English: An evacuation route is a way to get out of a building if there is an emergency, such as a fire. Spanish: Una ruta de evacuación es una forma de salir de un edificio si hay una emergencia, como un incendio.; Example: A put details of EVACUATION ROUTES near elevators, stairways, and in main hallways so guests know how to get out in an emergency.
Exhibitor/ Exhibidor: English: In simple terms, an exhibitor is a company that showcases its products or services at an exhibition event. Spanish: En términos simples, un expositor es un objeto en una empresa que exhibe sus productos o servicios en un evento de exhibición.; Example: He is an EXHIBITOR whose triumphs in the past are represented by innumerable first, second, and special prizes.
Exterior Design/ Diseño Exterior: English: It is the application of graphic design in conjunction with advertising applied abroad, with billboards, advertisements, etc. Spanish: Es la aplicación del diseño gráfico en unión con la publicidad aplicada al exterior, con espectaculares, anuncios, etc.; Example: EXTERIOR DESIGN would include, for example, the design of your garden, deck and patio.
Facing/ "Fachada" no definition: English: Facing is a technique (used in the Retail market) by means of which the number of faces of a product that are going to be exhibited is managed. Spanish: El facing es una técnica (usada en el mercado Retail) mediante la cual se administra el número de caras de un producto que se van a exponer.; Example: This problem has already been identified by L'Oreal directors, who see it as "one of the biggest challenges FACING consumer goods companies....because most of the investment is in the image", although action is yet to be taken.
Flex Roller/ Rodillo Flexible: English: It is a system from a roller that automatically positions your product to the front increasing sales. Spanish: Es un sistema a partir de rodillo que automaticamente posicionar tu producto al frente aumentando las ventas.; Example: The Gondola FLEX ROLLER integrates rollers within a gondola frame and is designed to replace the existing flat shelf.
Floor Print/ Adherible en Piso: English: Decorative element attached to the floor in the hallway of the Point of Sale to highlight a brand or product in the display area. Spanish: Elemento decorativo adherido al piso en el pasillo del Punto de Venta para destacar una marca o producto en la zona de exhibición.; Example: Here is why you might want to consider FLOOR PRINT advertising in your next marketing campaign.
Foam Board/ Cartón de Pluma: English: The Foam Board is a standard product for the sign and graphic arts industry. The panels typically consist of an extruded polystyrene foam. Spanish: El Foam Board es un producto estándar para la industria de letreros y artes gráficas. Los paneles consisten típicamente en una espuma de poliestireno extruida.; Example: The FOAM BOARD is a 5 mm sheet of foam material, covered with a smooth surface.
Frontage/ Fachada: English: The front part of a building that faces a road or river, or land near a road or river. Spanish: La parte delantera de un edificio que da a una carretera o un río.; Example: A FRONTAGE of a building is a wall which faces a public place such as a street or a river.
Gondola/ Góndola: English: A gondola, specifically a gondola fixture display in retail, refers to a free-standing unit used to display merchandise. Spanish: Una góndola, específicamente una exhibición de accesorios de góndola en el comercio minorista, se refiere a una unidad independiente que se usa para exhibir mercancías.; Example: Many GONDOLAS are displayed in Action Alley with themed product (baking items, gift ideas, holiday themes, etc.).
Icon/ Ícono: English: A sign or representation that stands for its object by virtue of a resemblance or analogy to it. Spanish: Un signo o representación que muestra un objeto en virtud de una semejanza o analogía con él.; Example: Click the flag ICON at the top of the web page to toggle the language to English.
Inbound Marketing/ Marketing de Entrada: English: Companies employing inbound marketing focus on new methods geared toward building awareness, developing relationships, and generating leads. Spanish: Es una metodología de marketing que se centra en encontrar clientes potenciales para la empresa y desarrollar relaciones.; Example: Every time you conduct a search on Google, your question will likely be answered thanks to the work of INBOUND MARKETING.
Merchandising/ Mercadotecnia: English: Set of techniques and studies that aim to improve the commercialization of a product. Spanish: Conjunto de técnicas y estudios que tienen como objeto mejorar la comercialización de un producto.; Example: Numbers should be increased in Mass MERCHANDISING stores were shopping habits is over 30%.
Mockup/ Maqueta: English: A mockup is a full rendering of your design on one or more of the client's products like labels, business cards, stationery, and signage. Spanish: Es una maqueta de la representación de tu diseño en uno o más productos del cliente, como: etiquetas, tarjetas de presentación, papelería y señalización.; Example: These MOCKUPS are serving the purpose of making the designs look 3D, but they aren't communicating much else to their prospective clients.
Mural: English: A mural or wall painting is a figurative art technique painted or applied directly on a wall or wall. Spanish: Un mural o pintura mural es una técnica de arte figurativo pintada o aplicada directamente sobre un muro o pared.; Example: Nationalism was hence instilled through popular means: MURAL painting, the corrido ballad, film, and to some extent, epic literature.
Museography/ Museografía: English: Is taken to mean the discipline those deals with the museum in terms of architectural structure, layout of the collections, display and technical solutions, and spaces. Spanish: Se entiende la disciplina que se ocupa del museo en términos de estructura arquitectónica, disposición de las colecciones, exhibición y soluciones técnicas y espacios.; Example: Those in charge of the MUSEOGRAPHY write the design briefs, which go into the tender documents for the content and mediation tools.
Museology/ Museología: English: Is the study of museums. It explores the history of museums and their role in society, as well as the activities they engage in. Spanish: Es el estudio de los museos. Explora la historia de los museos y su papel en la sociedad, así como las actividades en las que participan.; Example: Focusing on new trends in MUSEOLOGY recognizes that, during the past decades, the world of museums has undergone substantial change.
Ornamental/ Decorativo: English: Ornamental things have no practical function but are put in a place because they look attractive. Spanish: Las cosas ornamentales no tienen ninguna función práctica, pero se colocan en ciertos lugares con el fin de ser atractivas.; Example: McDonald's ORNAMENTAL advertising is interesting, it combines the atmosphere with the message.
Outbound Marketing/ Marketing de Salida: English: Outbound marketing involves proactively reaching out to consumers to get them interested in a product. Spanish: El marketing de salida implica llegar de manera proactiva a los consumidores para que se interesen en un producto.; Example: OUTBOUND MARKETING examples include more traditional forms of marketing and advertising such as TV commercials, radio ads, print advertisements...
Packaging/ Embalaje: English: The box-like container, wherein the product is stored to protect it from any physical damage and at the same time attracting the customer through its appeal. Spanish: El contenedor en donde se almacena el producto para protegerlo de cualquier daño físico y al mismo tiempo atraer a los consumidores.; Example: Advanced Business p.298 In terms of PACKAGING I would like my book to have a brightly colored jacket.
Pictogram/ Pictograma: English: Is a graphic symbol that conveys its meaning through its pictorial resemblance to a physical object. Spanish: Es un símbolo gráfico que transmite su significado a través de su semejanza pictórica con un objeto físico.; Example: PICTOGRAMS have been popularized in use on the web and in software, better known as "icons" displayed on a computer screen in order to help user navigate a computer system or mobile device.
Pop Case: English: Smooth surface, heat-resistant and low maintenance point of sale material. Spanish: Material de superficie lisa, resistente al calor y de poco mantenimiento en puntos de ventas.; Example: The POP CASE used on the stand cover is perfect for selling ham.
Portfolio Design/ Portafolio de Diseño: English: Your portfolio is a collection of your work that shows us your design ideas including fashion-focused creative skills, art-making skills or building concepts. Spanish: Su portafolio es una colección de su trabajo que nos muestra sus ideas de diseño; incluidas las habilidades creativas centradas en moda, creación de arte o conceptos de construcción.; Example: The black background keeps things clean and helps the work stand out. It makes for a simple but highly effective DESIGN PORTFOLIO.
POS (Point of sale display)/ Punto de Venta: English: Is a specialized form of sales promotion that is found near, on, or next to a checkout counter. They are intended to draw the customer's attention to products. Spanish: Es una promoción de ventas que se encuentra cerca de mostradores, cuyo propósito es llamar la atención de los clientes sobre los productos.; Example: Common items that may appear in POS displays year-round are batteries, soft drinks, candy...
Profitability/ Rentabilidad: English: Profitability is a measurement of efficiency – and ultimately its success or failure. Spanish: La rentabilidad es una medida de la eficiencia y, en última instancia, de su éxito o fracaso.; Example: Many of the changes identified could actually increase the company's PROFITABILITY.
Promotion/ Publicidad: English: Is the all activities which communicate the product, brand or service to the user. The idea is to make people aware, attract and induce to buy the product, in preference over others. Spanish: Son todas las actividades que comunican el producto, la marca o el servicio al usuario. La idea es concienciar, atraer e inducir a la gente a comprar el producto, con preferencia sobre otros.; Example: P&G should also have more aggressive PROMOTION campaigns to attract end consumer and also to increase awareness of the products.
Schedule/ Cronograma: English: A plan for carrying out a process or procedure, giving lists of intended events and times. Spanish: Un plan para llevar a cabo un proceso o procedimiento, dando listas de eventos y horarios previstos.; Example: They need a clear SCHEDULE of fixtures and fittings
Shopper/ Comprador: English: Is a person who buys goods in a shop. But this term use only when you make a purchase in a shop. Spanish: Es cuando una persona realiza una compra de algún producto en una tienda.; Example: However, there are magazines aimed at beginners, for example Everyday Food that targets the "Supermarket SHOPPER".
Signage/ Señalización: English: Graphic designs, as symbols, emblems, or words, used especially for identification or as a means of giving directions or warning. Spanish: Diseños gráficos, como símbolos, emblemas o palabras, utilizados especialmente para identificación o como medio para dar instrucciones o advertencias.; Example: Designers are working with local Native American tribes on patterns and designs to be incorporated into such elements as pavers and SIGNAGE.
Signs/ Letrero: English: The sign is an advertisement that consists only of letters, although it may have attached images. Spanish: El letrero es un aviso publicitario que consta solo de letras, aunque puede disponer de imágenes adjuntas.; Example: The Hollywood SIGN is a famous gigantic sign located on top of a mountain called "Cahuenga peak".
Speaker/ Hablador: English: It draws attention and provides information about a product, attached to a display. Spanish: Llama la atención y brinda información de un producto, adherido a un exhibidor.; Example: The SPEAKER who was posted at Walmart works to showcase the product, increasing Danonino's sales.
Standee/ Estante de pie: English: Display that is placed on the floor of department stores to visually promote a product. Spanish: Exhibidor que se coloca en el piso de las tiendas departamentales para promocionar visualmente un producto.; Example: A STANDEE of the new Marvel movie was displayed in the corridors of the cinema.
Stopper/ Rompe Tráfico: English: Signage element is located perpendicularly on the shelves and displays. Spanish: Elemento de señalización se ubica perpendicularmente en las estanterías y los exhibidores.; Example: The shopper marketers have achieved that 68% of the purchases are impulsive, according to data from Statista and with the STOPPER the purchase decision can be reinforced.
Strategy/ Estrategia: English: Is the intelligent allocation of resources through a unique system of activities to achieve a goal. Spanish: Es la asignación inteligente de recursos a través de un sistema único de actividades para lograr un objetivo.; Example: Marks' business STRATEGY was also clear and focused; placing particular emphasis on quality of goods and customer service, efficiency in production and operating procedures and good relationships with suppliers and customers.
Target Group o Target Market/ Público Meta: English: In the field of advertising, the anglicisms target, are used as synonyms to designate the ideal recipient of a certain campaign. Spanish: En el ámbito de la publicidad, el término de público meta se utiliza para designar al destinatario ideal de una determinada campaña.; Example: Since the 2004 ban, it is believed that the ban is a TARGET against the rural communities that participate in the activity.
UI Design/ Diseño UI: English: Is the process designers used to build interfaces in software or computerized devices, focusing on looks or style. Spanish: Es el proceso que los diseñadores utilizan para construir interfaces en software o dispositivos computarizados, enfocándose completamente en la apariencia y el estilo.; Example: The UI DESIGN, of Airbnb does two things very well: booking a place to stay, and creating trust between two complete strangers.
UX Design/ Diseño UX: English: Refers to any interaction a user has with a product or service. How it makes the user feel, and how easy it is for the user to accomplish their desired tasks. Spanish: Se refiere a cualquier interacción que un usuario tenga con un producto o servicio. Cómo hace que el usuario se sienta y qué tan fácil es para el usuario realizar las tareas deseadas.; Example: It breaks complicated topics into chewable pieces and simplifies the entire learning experience, using UX DESIGN.
Vinyl/ Vinil: English: Synthetic resin or plastic consisting of polyvinyl chloride or a related polymer, used for wallpapers and other covering materials and for records. Spanish: Resina sintética o plástico que consiste en cloruro de polivinilo o un polímero relacionado, utilizado para papeles pintados y otros materiales de recubrimiento y para registros.; Example: Protective glasses and VINYL gloves will be worn at all times.
